Paying a discipler is wrong; a paywall on discipleship disqualifies the discipler

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 6) 00:16:24 – 00:18:56

Question from Blake about someone offering to disciple him for payment

Scripture teaches voluntary giving to those who minister, but no one should put a paywall between themselves and a ministry of discipleship. The moment someone demands payment for discipling you, they reveal a wrong heart — move along. Paul refused money in Corinth to avoid sending the wrong message. Mike also cites his own practice of no super chats, no special-tier patreon, no donation shout-outs as an application of this principle. It is right to support local ministers; it is different to enter a contract to be ministered to.
