Q (Quelle) is a hypothetical source document proposed in synoptic gospel studies; its existence is unproven and theologically non-threatening

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 6) 00:36:19 – 00:38:50

Question from New Creation Coaching about the scholarly concept of "Q" and its reception among concerned Facebook users

Q comes from the German word Quelle meaning "source." It is a hypothesis in textual criticism / synoptic problem studies: Matthew, Mark, and Luke share overlapping content — Q is a proposed written (or oral) common source behind the similarities. No copy of Q exists; it is a supposition. Mike is personally skeptical of Q but acknowledges he is not qualified to adjudicate the scholarly debate. The theological point: Q does not threaten inspiration. We actually want gospel writers to use sources (eyewitnesses or their records) rather than fabricating content. What matters is that the Spirit inspired them in their writing.
