Children and communion: readiness is knowledge-based not age-based; parents decide, not the church

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 10) 00:25:48 – 00:27:18

Question from Kimberly Mencina about a four-year-old not participating in communion.

Mike argues communion readiness is knowledge-based, not age-based, and parents know their children's level of understanding better than any pastor can by setting a blanket age threshold. Since Scripture does not give a clear ruling on this, he grants maximum liberty. He would only intervene pastorally if parents were unhealthily withholding children from church participation altogether.
