Biblical basis for rights to life, liberty, and property
Question asking for verses that imply life, liberty, and property are inalienable rights.
Mike traces three rights through Scripture. Right to life: Abel's blood crying to God (Gen 4) implies Abel had a right to life. Right to property: the 8th and 10th commandments (do not steal, do not covet). He addresses the Canaanite land exception by noting God as ultimate owner can apportion land. He cites Ahab and Jezebel seizing Naboth's vineyard as an example of God opposing unjust government seizure of private property. He notes the Year of Jubilee (every 50 years) as an OT mechanism restoring land to original family lines but cautions it does not translate to modern governments. Liberty: grounded in God's authority above all governments; Christians can disobey government when obedience to God requires it.
