Q6 (wrong week): Advice for someone leaving a cult (JW) and finding a church; overcoming spiritual abuse

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 16) 00:26:42 – 00:30:13

Response to question about choosing a church after leaving JW (note: Mike realized partway through this was from a previous week's questions)

Mike advises someone baptized as a JW to look for humble, teachable leaders rather than domineering authority figures. He draws on personal experience of anxiety around authority figures due to a difficult childhood. He notes that humble leaders may seem weak to those accustomed to abuse. He encourages association with a genuine body of Christ even with flaws, and says church membership is not a lifetime binding commitment.
