Consult additional translations when your interpretation hangs on the nuance of a specific wording

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 17) 00:03:08 – 00:04:39

Second tip on when to consult secondary Bible translations; practical advice for teachers

Tip #2 — If your interpretation of a passage depends on a specific nuance of wording, check other translations to see if they preserve that nuance. If they do, your confidence increases. If not, you may be over-reading one translation's rendering. This is especially important for pastors and teachers, who can mislead congregations by building too much on a translation artifact. When still confused, go to commentaries. Blue Letter Bible recommended.
