Question: Is it wrong for a pastor to live in a huge home with a salary higher than 90% of his congregation?
Viewer JR asks whether high pastoral salaries and luxury homes are appropriate.
Mike distinguishes cases: a pastor who had wealth before ministry (investments, side business) is different from one whose sole income is the church salary. For the latter, he raises two concerns with very high pay: (1) it creates bad ulterior motives — a $300K salary puts bait out for people who pursue ministry for the money; (2) it is a poor witness to the world. He acknowledges the opposite extreme (poverty wages) is also unhealthy.
