Question: If Christ's return requires a rebuilt temple, how is it rebuilt without the Ark of the Covenant?

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 23) 00:34:02 – 00:36:03

Viewer Isaac O'Brien asks about the rebuilding of the Jerusalem temple in eschatology and the missing Ark of the Covenant.

Mike is a futurist who believes a third temple will be built in Jerusalem before Christ's return, though exact timing is uncertain. He lists three scenarios regarding the Ark: (1) It may already be known and hidden — the Ethiopian Orthodox claim to possess it (a hut-type structure with a high priest guarding it); some guess the Acts 8 Ethiopian eunuch brought it out of Jerusalem, though the Bible says nothing of this. (2) A new Ark could simply be constructed — the Temple Institute has already made a new golden lampstand over six feet tall; they could carve new stone tablets and replicate the Ark. (3) No Ark at all — the rebuilt temple need not have one.
