Mark 8:5-9 — Jesus asking for the loaves teaches using what you have; what Jesus chose not to do does not define the limits of his power.
Question from Lassie Clyman about why Jesus asks for loaves and why fish are brought separately in the feeding of the 4,000.
Winger clarifies the questioner meant Mark 8, not Matthew 8. He reads Mark 8:5-9. He suggests Jesus asked for what was available because there may be a lesson in using what you have and offering it to God. On why fish were brought separately: they simply brought all the food. On whether Jesus needed something to start with: what Jesus chose to do does not define what he could do (analogy: walking to Jerusalem does not mean he could not fly). Hebrews 1 confirms the world was made through Christ, establishing his unlimited power.
