Confirmation bias accusations are themselves prone to confirmation bias; fear of confirmation bias is not sufficient reason to disbelieve something

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 25) 00:16:21 – 00:18:56

Responding to a young Christian worried that his theism might be confirmation bias given that most atheistic arguments seem like straw men and ad hominem

Accusations of confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance are psychological assessments of people, not assessments of arguments. Assessments of arguments (straw men, ad hominem) are more legitimate. A vague fear that one might have confirmation bias is not a logical reason to change beliefs. The person accusing another of confirmation bias may themselves be exhibiting it.
