Levitical and Aaronic priesthoods explained: Levites served in the tabernacle/temple; Aaron's descendants held the most important priestly roles as a sub-class.

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 30) 00:15:21 – 00:17:24

Q3 from Ronald Fish: explain the difference between the Aaronic, Levitical, and Melchizedek priesthoods.

The tribe of Levi (Levites) had broad responsibilities: moving the tabernacle, preparing sacrifices, teaching Torah to Israel. The Aaronic priesthood is a sub-class within the Levites — specifically descendants of Aaron, Moses's brother and Israel's first high priest. Aaronites held the highest-ranking priestly roles, including entering the tabernacle itself for the most sacred sacrificial duties. All Aaronic priests are Levites, but not all Levites are Aaronic priests. All of these roles prefigure Christ.
