Westfall's primogeniture claim vs. Paul's actual point about sonship
Mike distinguishes between Paul's meaning and Westfall's application.
Westfall says everyone wrapped in Christ shares his primogeniture (firstborn) status. Mike's distinction: Paul's point is that we share in Jesus's inheritance of the kingdom and his relationship with God. Westfall adds that men do not have special status over women such as authority in marriage — partly derived from a primogeniture principle in Genesis 2. Mike agrees Genesis 2 contains a primogeniture principle but says reducing the complementarian argument to primogeniture alone ignores about six other lines of reasoning supporting gender role distinctions.
