Christians should pay taxes even to corrupt governments that use money for immoral purposes — Jesus said to pay taxes to Rome, which would use that money to crucify him. Romans 13:1-7 teaches we OWE government obedience, taxes, fear, and honor.
Biblical teaching on taxes, submission to government, and Romans 13
Jesus tells them to pay taxes to Rome — a corrupt government that would use the money to crucify him. If they should pay, so should we. Christians who withhold taxes because the government funds abortion are wrong — you're responsible for paying, not for how they're used (like an employer paying an employee). Romans 13:1-7: (1) Every person is to be in subjection to governing authorities — they are established by God; (2) Whoever resists authority opposes God's ordinance; (3) Pay tax to whom tax is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, HONOR to whom honor. The word "due" assumes whatever tax the government imposes is owed. Practical applications: pay full taxes on private car sales, serve jury duty honestly (don't lie to get out of it — Matthew 5:41 "go the second mile" applies), obey traffic laws. Libertarians: your principles may be right, but don't lower the bar for rebellion.
