Verses 5-13 are a list of NON-SIGNS: false messiahs, wars, earthquakes, famines, persecution — Jesus explicitly says "the end is not yet" and "these are merely the beginning of birth pangs." Do not use these to predict Christ's return.
Detailed exegesis of Mark 13:5-13 as warnings against false predictions
Mark 13:5-7: "See to it that no one misleads you" — the FIRST thing on Jesus's mind about the second coming is don't be misled. V.6: false Christs (World Mission Society Church of God, JWs claiming Christ already returned, cult in Siberia with thousands of followers, Church of Almighty God with a female Jesus in China). V.7: "Wars and rumors of wars — do not be frightened; that is NOT YET the end." V.8: earthquakes, famines = "merely the beginning of birth pangs" — NOT the end. The genre of YouTube "prophets" with urgent prophetic messages that are just vague non-specific things is the very misleading Jesus warned against. Key principle: when Christ returns, "everyone will know it" — like lightning from east to west. No one needs to announce it. If someone has to tell you Christ has come, it's a lie.
