1 John 3:4 ("sin is lawlessness") doesn't mean Christians must keep the Mosaic Law — "lawlessness" means rebellion against God's moral authority, not specifically violating Torah commands. The New Testament redefines how we relate to God's moral standards.

The Hebrew Roots movement uses this verse to argue Christians must keep Torah. But "lawlessness" (anomia) in Greek means without law/rebellion against moral authority broadly — not specifically Mosaic legislation. The NT is clear we're not under the Mosaic covenant while still upholding God's moral standards through the Spirit.
