Hippocrates: the brain, not the heart, is the cause of intelligence

Male Headship: Is it REALLY Biblical? Women in Ministry part 8 00:21:28 – 00:22:28

Mike examines what Hippocrates, the father of medicine, actually believed about the head.

Hippocrates, still influential in the first century (the Hippocratic Oath is named after him), wrote: 'Neither the heart nor the diaphragm has any share of intelligence, but it is the brain which is the cause of all the things I've mentioned' — including intelligence, reason, and will. Mike credits Clinton Arnold's survey of ancient thought on the function of the head for much of this evidence.
