Colossians 1:18 — Christ as head of the body, the firstborn, having preeminence in all things

Male Headship: Is it REALLY Biblical? Women in Ministry part 8 00:41:21 – 00:42:22

Mike examines Colossians 1:18, another passage egalitarians cite.

Colossians 1:18 says Christ 'is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he may have the preeminence.' Mike argues 'firstborn' implies authority (culturally, the firstborn held authority), and 'preeminence' (Greek: proteuon) clearly carries connotations of authority. BDAG defines the term as 'to hold the highest rank in a group'; the LSJ defines it as 'the chief men in a city.'
