Pierce and Groothuis argue that Paul commands husbands to love, not to exercise authority — a false dichotomy
Mike addresses the egalitarian argument that love commands exclude authority.
Pierce and Groothuis write (p. 115 of Discovering Biblical Equality) that Paul calls husbands to love their wives self-sacrificially, and 'as head of his wife, the husband is commanded to love her, not to exercise leadership or authority over her.' Mike identifies this as a false dichotomy: loving people does not rule out exercising authority over them. Jesus both loves us and exercises authority over us.
