Marriage grounded in creation (Genesis) and salvation (Christ and church), not culture
Mike argues the passage's own grounding prevents culturally-bound interpretations.
Ephesians 5:31-32 quotes Genesis ('a man shall leave his father and mother...the two shall become one flesh') grounding the head-body relationship in creation, not culture. Paul then says 'this mystery is profound -- it refers to Christ and the church,' grounding it in salvation. Marriage represents both the will of God in creation and in redemption.
