Wife has real authority: over home, children, and can make demands on husband

Even in ancient culture, women were understood to have great authority in the home -- 'she rules the home.' Children obeying 'parents' (plural) confirms the wife's authority. Proverbs commands children to heed 'the instruction of your mother.' 1 Corinthians 7 shows wives have legitimate claims on husbands. It is a 'dignified submission with true authority but not the same authority as her husband.'
