While wifely submission and husband authority are consistently taught, husbands didn't have the same authority their culture wanted to give them. Sexually they had equal obligations. Jesus rejected the male prerogative to divorce. The NT removed restrictions on educating women in religious matters. These are ways the NT goes against the culture of the time.
