Josephus' household code actually supports complementarian view, not egalitarian
Mike argues the Josephus example backfires on the egalitarian case.
Josephus writes: 'the Scripture says a woman is inferior to her husband in all things. Let her therefore be obedient to him, not so that he should abuse her, but that she may acknowledge her duty to her husband, for God hath given the authority to the husband.' Josephus genuinely believed what he wrote -- he didn't create a code he disagreed with. Similarly, Paul likely believed the household code in Ephesians 5. Josephus grounded his code in Scripture and God's authority, just as Paul grounds his in creation and Christ.
