Summary of 'maybe' chain problems in Keener's cultural argument
Mike recaps the weakness of Keener's cultural-bowing case.
Mike lists compounding 'maybes': (1) maybe Paul would write codes that look patriarchal but aren't really, (2) the letter was sent to Ephesus not Rome, addressed to Christians not Romans, with an elaborate code that Christians and pagans were supposed to interpret differently, (3) the jump from 'a religion might be criticized for undermining households' to 'this was a pressing concern for Paul' is unwarranted -- Christians were regularly accused of undermining society by rejecting idolatry, not household codes.
