Aristotle actually distinguishes between reasons for female submission and slave obedience
Mike analyzes Aristotle's actual text on the slavery-marriage connection.
Aristotle's reasons differ: For women -- 'the male is by nature superior and the female by nature inferior' (no further reason given). For slaves -- those with greater reason should rule those with lesser reason; some have 'the soul of a servant.' Crucially, Aristotle says slavery is soul-based and independent of birth/body, while gender roles are body/nature-based. The slave lacks 'deliberative faculty'; the woman HAS deliberative faculty 'but without authority.' These are fundamentally different categories in Aristotle.
