Athaliah: Belleville says she ruled Israel 842-836 BC as a 'head of state' — but reading 2 Kings 11 shows she was a murderous usurper.

How Women Could and Couldn’t Lead in the Old Testament: Women in Ministry part 3 01:14:04 – 01:16:09

Examining Athaliah as an egalitarian example

Linda Belleville (p. 52, Two Views) presents Athaliah as a woman who was 'head of state.' But 2 Kings 11:1-3 reveals she murdered all the royal family to usurp the throne (only Joash was hidden and survived). She reigned for six years as a literal murderous usurper going against God's clear desires. Using her as an example of an 'accepted female head of state' is deeply misleading.
