Mike's preferred explanation for the priesthood restriction
The best explanation Mike has found: God wants to preserve male authority in the highest spiritual role. While not expressly stated in the Bible, there is a consistency from Genesis 2 through the OT examples to the NT. A complete barring of women from all authority roles is wrong, but completely ignoring different roles is also wrong. The priesthood is a special case — God expressly (not just by example) restricts it to men.
