Gordon Fee on verse 9: woman is 'necessary for man' to fulfill his calling -- also creates contradiction

All The Head Covering Debates (1 Cor 11): Women in Ministry part 10 03:32:37 – 03:33:39

Mike examines and refutes Fee's interpretation.

Fee interprets 'created for the man' as meaning man needs her. Fee: 'She is thus man's glory because she came from man and was created for him. She is not thereby subordinate to him, but necessary for him.' Problem: if verse 9 means woman is needed for man's calling, then 'man was not created for woman' means woman does NOT need man -- turning Paul into a 1970s feminist ('women need men like fish need a bicycle').
