Revelation 2:14
Revelation 2:14 — Didasko Used for False Teaching
Jesus rebukes the church at Pergamum for tolerating those who hold the teaching of Balaam, who "kept teaching (didasko) Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel." This is a clear instance where the standard Greek word for "teach" (didasko) refers to false teaching — without using the compound heterodidaskaleo ("to teach differently").
This undermines the complementarian argument that didasko in 1 Timothy 2:12 must mean authorized, orthodox teaching. If didasko can refer to false teaching in Revelation, it can in 1 Timothy as well.
Greek Analysis — Revelation 2:14
διδάσκω (didasko) — used here unambiguously for false teaching. Balaam taught error. This is lexical evidence that didasko does not inherently imply authorized or orthodox teaching, which is critical for the 1 Timothy 2:12 debate.
Greek Terms
