Problems with the 'other prophets judge prophecy' view

Mike argues against the interpretation that only other prophets test prophecy.

Two problems: (1) It requires that only prophets can have the gift of discernment, but 1 Corinthians 12:10 lists prophecy and discerning of spirits as separate gifts given to different people. If only prophets judged, only prophets could have the discernment gift -- contradicting the egalitarian argument that anyone can have any gift. (2) Paul thinks anyone could prophesy (1 Cor 14:1, 39), making it impractical to maintain a list of 'official prophets' authorized to judge. If anyone can prophesy at any time, saying 'only prophets judge' is saying nothing meaningful.
