View 5: Saved through the Messiah — the childbearing refers to Christ

ALL The Debates Over 1 Tim 2_11-15: Women in Ministry part 12 (it took me a year to make this) 10:29:45 – 10:35:24

Mike presents his preferred interpretation: 'saved through childbearing' refers to salvation through the promised Messiah born of Eve's line.

Mike's interpretation: (1) 'She' in v.15 refers to Eve, who was just discussed in v.14; (2) Eve transgressed (v.14) and needs salvation; (3) That salvation comes 'through childbearing' — specifically the childbearing prophesied in Genesis 3:15, where the seed of the woman will crush the serpent's head; (4) This is the Messiah, Jesus Christ; (5) 'If they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control' — the 'they' shifts to all women (or all people), who are saved by the same Messiah if they have genuine faith. The logic: Paul has been discussing Genesis 2 (v.13) and Genesis 3 (v.14) — Genesis 3:15 is the very next relevant verse, containing the first Messianic prophecy. Paul naturally connects Eve's transgression to Eve's salvation through the promised seed.
