Phyllis Trible's objection to the naming argument: naming requires both 'call' and 'name' together in the sentence; Gen 2:23 lacks this formula.

Egalitarian counter-argument to naming = authority

Trible argues that true 'naming' in the OT requires both the verb 'call' (qara) and the noun 'name' (shem) together (e.g., Gen 4:17 'he called the name of the city Enoch'; Gen 4:25-26 'called his name Seth'). Since Gen 2:23 lacks this formula ('she shall be called woman'), Adam isn't really naming her -- just classifying her gender. Without the full naming formula, it's not an act of authority.
