Ramsey's strongest counter-examples: Hagar naming God in Genesis 16:13 and Isaac naming wells he abandons in Genesis 26:17-21.
Counter-examples to naming = authority
Ramsey cites Hagar naming God ('El Roi' in Gen 16:13) -- she can't have authority over God. Mike responds: God already had a name; Hagar assigned a relational nickname, which is different from naming. Ramsey also cites Isaac naming wells he then abandons (Gen 26:17-21). Mike responds: Isaac's naming seems like an act of claiming rightful ownership ('I dug these, they're mine') even as he's forced to walk away.
