Reason 3: We allow people to break interpretive rules when handling prophecy — eisegesis masquerading as exegesis

End of the World Predictions and Why They're Wrong 00:42:45 – 00:43:49

Third reason people fall for false predictions.

People apply rigorous contextual interpretation to non-prophetic texts (e.g., 'take up your cross') but abandon all rules when prophecy is involved. This enables numerology, symbolism without warrant, and reading meanings that the original audience could never have imagined (e.g., 'magnetic north' from Isaiah 24:1). The technical term is eisegesis — importing meaning into the text. People need to demand that the same rules apply to prophetic texts as to any other text.
