Crystallizing the difference between Catholic and Protestant soteriology

Catholic formula (especially Council of Trent): salvation = faith + works. Biblical/Protestant formula that Mike argues James supports: faith = salvation, and salvation produces works. The difference is whether works are the cause/means or the result/effect. James agrees with the Protestant formula because works in James are the result, not the cause.
