1 Timothy 5:1-2: 'older women' does not mean women elders; equivocation fallacy
Mike addresses another passage sometimes cited for women elders.
1 Timothy 5:1-2 says 'do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters.' Some claim the feminine plural of 'presbyteros' here means women held the elder office. Mike notes: (1) the context of older men/younger men/older women/younger women indicates age groups, not offices; (2) if there were already women elders, why does Timothy need instructions on appointing elders in 1 Timothy 3?
