1 Timothy 3:1-7: elder requirements are distinctly masculine
Mike reads the definitive passage on elder qualifications.
The passage states an overseer must be: above reproach, husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent, gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money, managing his household well, not a recent convert, well thought of by outsiders. Mike emphasizes the masculine language throughout: 'husband of one wife,' 'manages his own household,' and masculine pronouns in vv. 6-7.
