LSJ vs. BDAG on prostatis: wrong lexicon used; BDAG says 'patron/benefactor,' not 'leader'

Women Leaders in the New Testament: Women in Ministry part 4 01:49:08 – 01:51:40

Mike identifies a significant lexical error in Payne's argument.

The LSJ focuses on classical/Attic Greek, not biblical koine Greek, and doesn't even mention the NT in its article on prostatis. The proper resource for NT Greek is BDAG, which defines prostatis as 'a woman in a supportive role, a patron, a benefactor' and explicitly states the relationship 'is not to be confused with the Roman patron-client system.' Payne used the wrong lexicon to get the translation he wanted, which Mike calls 'bogus.'
