1 Timothy 3:8-13: deacon requirements with the key question of verse 11 -- wives or women deacons?
Mike turns to the definitive passage on deacon qualifications.
1 Timothy 3:8-13 lists deacon requirements: dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to wine, not greedy, holding the faith with clear conscience, tested first. Verse 11 says 'gunaikas likewise' -- where 'gunaikas' can mean 'wives' or 'women.' Translators must guess which meaning is intended. The passage continues with 'husband of one wife' and managing household well.
