Gen Z's underlying worldview challenge: a consumer culture that conditions them to expect reality to conform to their desires rather than conform to external reality

The State of Youth Today and How to Disciple Them (Dr. Sean McDowell) 00:29:52 – 00:31:56

McDowell identifies the deeper worldview issue beneath Gen Z's post-truth tendencies

Growing up in a world of endless customization — Starbucks has 87,000 drink options, music is on-demand, products delivered by drone — Gen Z has been conditioned to feel they do not have to tailor themselves to fit an external reality. They can make reality fit their own wants and desires. This is the root of post-truth thinking for this generation. The real underlying question is: is there a truth we can know? Is truth important? Am I willing to conform my life to truth? The biggest worldview question for Gen Z (though they would not frame it this way) is: what is freedom? Is freedom living as my autonomous self? Or is freedom aligning my life with God's reality?
