James the brother of Jesus — conversion from skeptic to martyr

A Bunch Of Reasons Christianity Is True: special guest Jonathan McLatchie 01:45:16 – 01:47:18

McLatchie presents the conversion and martyrdom of James, Jesus's brother, as particularly strong evidence for the resurrection.

James was a skeptic during Jesus's ministry: John 7:5 says even Jesus's brothers did not believe in him. Mark 3 records his family coming to take him home, saying he was out of his mind. At the crucifixion (John 19), Jesus entrusted his mother's care to the Beloved Disciple — not to James — suggesting James was not yet a believer. But shortly after the resurrection, James is among the praying believers in Acts 1. 1 Corinthians 15:7 says Jesus appeared to James. James went on to become leader of the Jerusalem church and refers to Jesus as "the Lord of glory" (James 2:1). Josephus (Antiquities 20.9.1) records James's martyrdom by stoning, around AD 62. Hegesippus (second century) provides further detail. The question: what would it take to convince a skeptical older brother that his sibling was the Yahweh of the Old Testament?
