Moral evil as the result of free will; natural evil as a separate category
Mike distinguishes two major categories of evil
Moral evil arises when beings with free will make choices that go against God's goodness. The first agents of moral evil were Satan, then Adam and Eve — they did not create evil ex nihilo but performed acts with evil qualities by contrast to God. Natural evil (tornadoes, disease, calamity) is a separate category with distinct causes addressed in scripture.
