Cheerful giving — the problem is the grudge, not the giving

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 8) Fixed and Reuploaded 00:38:42 – 00:40:45

Q from Folky about whether it is better not to give if you cannot give cheerfully.

Mike references 2 Corinthians 9 (the Lord loves a cheerful giver; do not give grudgingly or by force). He argues the command is not to stop giving when your emotions are not right — rather, the command is to fight the grudging attitude while continuing to give. He applies this to service/ministry broadly, not just finances: pastors who feel like they don't want to go preach are not thereby excused from preaching. The right response is to act in obedience by an act of will and fight the bad attitude internally. Following your flesh is never the answer; following the Spirit always is.
