Discipleship readiness: everyone can encourage immediately; formal leadership is about raising others up, not establishing authority

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 20) 00:53:19 – 00:55:00

Second part of Bree Herb's question: how do you know when you are ready to disciple others?

Mike distinguishes two levels of discipleship: (1) Peer-level encouragement -- available to every believer immediately; (2) Formal leadership/guidance -- grows with experience, credibility, and relationship. The chief danger of formal discipleship: focusing on establishing your own role rather than raising up self-sufficient leaders. No clear 'readiness' threshold -- it develops organically through serving.
