Christ's human nature died; his divine nature explains the resurrection

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 23) 00:11:12 – 00:12:12

The two-natures framework resolves the death/deity tension: humanity accounts for his death, deity makes his resurrection inevitable.

His human nature is what died on the cross. His divine nature is what made it impossible for death to hold him (Acts 2:24 implied). Scripture says it was impossible for death to keep him — his deity necessitated his resurrection. 'His humanity explains his death; his deity explains his resurrection.' This framework makes the Incarnation necessary: God cannot be crucified in a purely spiritual manifestation; he had to take on genuine human form.
