The egalitarian challenge: stretching sonship status to include eldership
Mike frames the core question the egalitarian position must answer.
Westfall and every egalitarian must stretch the four benefits of sonship (heirship, being in Christ, justification, Holy Spirit relationship) to apply to being an elder. The question is whether this bridge is sustainable. Westfall agrees that 'the identity of being baptized and placed within Christ is the primary or salient identity all members share regardless of race, nationality, social status, or gender' — which Mike fully affirms. But the concept of 'salient identity' begins to turn toward something else — intersectionality-like reasoning.
