Practical advice for an agnostic seeking to believe

20 Questions with Pastor Mike (Episode 29) 00:51:23 – 00:55:28

Question from "It's Flawless," an agnostic trying to believe.

Winger's counsel: (1) Continue reading the Gospel of John without fixating on having an emotional "zapping" moment. (2) Begin praying — worst case you talk to yourself, best case you reach God; ask him to remove spiritual blindness. (3) Attend a local church. (4) Write out your actual intellectual objections to Christianity (not a scattered list of a thousand petty doubts, but the 2-5 that truly matter). Cross off any that do not actually bear on whether Christianity is true (e.g., uncertainty about Genesis interpretation does not determine whether Christ rose). Chase down those remaining core questions with good scholarship. (5) Be honest about non-intellectual obstacles — cost of changed life, potential social embarrassment, desire to avoid submitting to Christ as Lord. These often weigh on seekers as much as intellectual doubts.
