Jesus's parable directly taps into Isaiah 5's vineyard song — same elements (wall, vat, wine press, tower) — creating a typological parallel: Isaiah's time (prophets rejected → first temple destroyed) mirrors Jesus's time (Son rejected → second temple destroyed).

Isaiah 5 connection and temple destruction context

Isaiah 5:1-7: God plants vineyard for Israel with identical elements (wall, wine press, tower). Isaiah's vineyard produces bad fruit → God destroys it. Jesus reuses these elements but shifts focus from the people to the LEADERS (tenants). The Targum Isaiah (30 BC) interpreted Isaiah 5 as about temple destruction. The Talmud identifies the tower as the temple and the wine vat as the altar. Craig Evans argues this interpretation is at least as old as the first century. The typological parallel: Isaiah's time — prophets sent, rejected by leaders, temple destroyed (586 BC). Jesus's time — Son sent, rejected by leaders, temple destroyed (70 AD). But Jesus's is MORE extreme because it's not just a prophet but the Son.

Neopatriarch Fails To Refute Cheryl

Some have wondered why “Chris” the complementarian stopped posting here. Apparently, he could not get his refutation of my work to stand in an interactive forum so he moved it over to a place where he could have the floor to himself
