François Du Toit started a church in the 1980s in South Africa, drifted into new age mysticism after leaving the church, then returned to try to reshape Christianity to match his new beliefs. Du Toit is sincere and intelligent — which makes him more effective as a deceiver. "People who are sincere and loving and very kind can be the worst of deceivers because they themselves believe the lies."
