BDAG lexicon (2000): kephale denotes 'superior rank,' cites 1 Cor 11:3 and Eph 5:23; no mention of 'source'

Male Headship: Is it REALLY Biblical? Women in Ministry part 8 01:02:40 – 01:03:42

Mike surveys the most respected NT lexicon first.

BDAG (Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, 2000), the most well-respected NT lexicon, says kephale for living beings 'denotes superior rank' and specifically assigns this meaning to 1 Corinthians 11:3 and Ephesians 5:23 (the male headship passages). Source is never given as a meaning. It does not use the word 'leader' but 'superior rank' obviously implies the same thing.
