Complementarian reading: Paul affirms authority but with Jesus-like caveats
Mike offers the alternative complementarian reading of Colossians 3.
Paul affirms the husband's authority (wife told to submit) but with caveats: husband told to love (not told to take authority or force submission), and not to be harsh. The focus on love rather than control is important -- a focus on leading can turn into insecurities, rudeness, and power struggles in marriage. The Bible does not encourage this.
